Vidhushi Suchithra Holla is one of the well-known Carnatic music vocalists from Coastal Karnataka. Came to light as a child artiste, she hails from a traditional art loving family from Ujire, a remote village in Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada district. She inherited her melodious voice from her grandmother Saraswathiamma, who was well-versed in singing Shobhane stanzas. Young Suchithra was influenced by her father Sri Srinivasa Holla, a priest and amateur Yakshagana Bhagavata who was awarded the best Yakshagana Bhagavatha in Dakshina Kannada at a young age.
She was initiated into music by her father at a tender age. Later on she honed her skills under the tutelage of the great names like Neela Ramgopal, Kudmar Venkataramana and Shyamala Nagaraj. She got the first rank in the Vidwath examination conducted by the Karnataka State Secondary Education Board. She has secured her M Music degree from Karnataka State Open University, that too scoring highest. Suchithra is also a recipient of scholarships from the Sangeeth Natak Academy. The versatile singer is an Akashavani B grade artiste and a member of Board of Studies in Carnatic Music of Mangalore University.
Suchithra, performed on the stage at the age of 9 and has not looked back since then. Till now she has given more than 500 concerts in various places in Karnataka and attended many music workshops both as a resource person and a delegate.
Sharp and high pitched lucid style, quick rendition of krithis and strict adherence to classicism are her strengths and these aspects, in fact, have made her music unique. Her dedication and hard work to excel in the field have earned her quite a good number of fans. Besides performing, she is involved in grooming young singers in the field of music by founding Sadhana Music School in Puttur. Swaramala, a monthly music programme that provides a platform for the young musicians of coastal Karnataka, is a dream of Suchithra Holla is getting realised in these days with the co-operation and encouragement of the music connoisseurs of Puttur. She has been honoured by Spandana Lalithakala Kendra, Belthangady, Nagarika Seva Trust, Sangeetha Parishat, Mangalore and many other organisations. She gave concerts in famous Music Sabhas of Coastal Karnataka, Ramnavami celebration in Bangalore etc. Her academic pursuits have not suffered due to her dedication to music. A law graduate, Smt. Holla holds M Com and MBA degrees too.
